Sessions & Descriptions

Session 1 | Full Day | October 19

“Access for Students with Complex Needs” takes place at the Wood County Educational Service Center

For teachers of students with complex needs, finding ways for students to actively participate in daily standards-based instruction may sometimes be a challenge. This session will focus on recognizing meaningful physical response modes for students, identifying and individualizing communicative intent, maximizing environmental strategies to endure daily participation, high quality educational practices for all students, and matching assistive technology (AT) resources to individual student needs.

Upon the conclusion of this session, teachers will be able to identify communicative intent and student response modes, apply strategies and practices for reaching students with limited identifiable modes of response, and gain knowledge of AT resources and assessments to match to individual student needs.

After School | December 6

“Strategies & Resources for Reaching Students with Complex Needs” takes place December 6 at the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West.

This after-school session will explore various resources and strategies teachers may use to engage their students. These strategies and resources will help ensure high quality practices are implemented in daily instruction for students with complex needs. Teachers will explore and apply resources such as SIFTS, modules from the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities (OCECD), the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI), and more.

Upon the conclusion of this session, teachers will be able to identify and use a variety of resources to help ensure daily engagement in standards-based education for all students.
