Interactive Training on Career Advising & OMJ

Career planning and job placement are key components of the age 14 transition requirements and results-driven accountability in Ohio. Ohio law requires all school districts to implement a career advising policy for students in grades six through 12.

To support this initiative, the State Support Team Region 1 is offering an interactive training to guidance counselors, teachers, transition specialists, and administrators from city, local, exempted village, and joint vocational schools. The training is facilitated by Angela Dietrich, M.A., and Aaron Weisbrod, M.Ed., and will take place on October 24 at the State Support Team Region 1 computer lab, located at 2275 Collingwood Blvd. in Toledo, Ohio. The training is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch is not provided and six contact hours [6] are available.

This training will help participants identify key components of Career Advising Plans and show how they can be integrated into school curriculum and practices. This will include Career Connections and the OhioMeansJobs website. Exploration of the OhioMeansJobs website will be integrated into the training throughout the day.

Participants will create and develop an account on the OhioMeansJobs K-12 website, identify and locate its tools, align career exploration and job readiness skills to Ohio’s Academic Standards, and select tools for classroom use that support student career exploration and age-appropriate transition services.
