A Multi-Sensory Approach for Improved Oral Expression & Writing

Note: Registration has reached capacity and is now closed.

Students with and without disabilities often struggle with oral and written expression. To assist teams with this endeavor, the State Support Team Region 1 is offering a training session designed to enhance literacy outcomes for students in preschool through grade three.

This training will be facilitated by Sara L. Smith, creator of the Expanding Expression Tool (EET), a multi-sensory approach used to facilitate more detailed descriptions and definitions.

The session will explain how this approach motivates students to clearly define vocabulary, write informational reports, use vibrant details, and write from prior knowledge.

Participants will gain hands-on activities, student samples, and strategies they can use in the classroom.

Specifically, participants will learn how to create curriculum-based lessons using the language tool, teach a multi-sensory approach for including more details in oral and written expression, and learn how to collect baseline data and monitor progress using the program.

The State Support Team Region 1 is offering this training session by Sara L. Smith from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. The training will take place at the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, located at 2275 Collingwood Boulevard in Toledo, Ohio. This training offers five [5] contact hours of credit for full-day attendance. Registration is required.
