COVID-19 & Inclement Weather Policies Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most State Support Team 1 professional learning opportunities are offered online. When in-person training is necessary, proper sanitation, social distancing, and face covering protocols are utilized. We are carefully monitoring State Support Team health and will notify registrants of any event cancellations or location changes.   When we return to in-person training opportunities, please be mindful of weather conditions. If  hazardous driving conditions exist, call 800-346-8495 after 6:30 a.m. to learn if your workshop is delayed or cancelled. Should you feel conditions are too unsafe to travel, please leave a message to let us know you won’t be attending.

Mental Health and Social-Emotional Learning Summit

The Ohio School Boards Association is partnering with education groups and mental health associations to offer the Mental Health and Social-Emotional Learning Summit, Feb. 25 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

This free summit will offer learning opportunities designed for teachers, counselors, school psychologists, board members, administrators and other school staff.

The association encourages every district to bring a team, so team members can attend multiple breakout sessions. The summit also features a Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., where agencies will be sharing information about their available resources.

Interoception, The Eighth Sense @ Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West

During this training, participants will gain an in-depth understanding about interoception including the impact this sense has on the development of social-emotional skills and positive behavior. Additionally, participants will learn evidence-based strategies for improving interoception, including coverage of The Interoception Curriculum, a step-by-step framework for improving interoceptive awareness.

“Interoception, The Eighth Sense: A Practical Evidence Based Approach to Developing Self-Regulation, Behavior, Language, and Social Participation” will be presented by Kelly Mahler, M.S., OTR/L.

This training will take place on March 4, 2020. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. The training is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, located at 2275 Collingwood Blvd. in Toledo, Ohio. Lunch will be provided. Six (6) contact hours are available for this training.

The cost for this training is $125 for ESC of Lake Erie West member districts; $155 for nonmember districts. The fee includes lunch and instructional materials. Sketchnoting Workshop with Tanny McGregor

Description

Participants will learn how to use sketchnoting, a nonconventional instructional practice that yields student engagement and confidence. Taught by literacy professional Tanny McGregor, this workshop will provide participants with a better understand incorporating sketchnotes as it applies content-specific, and as a literacy-rich option supportive of text-based learning and student comprehension.

 

About Tanny McGregor

Internationally- known teacher and conference speaker Tanny McGregor brings over 30 years of professional experience to her popular sessions. Her workshops are known for their creative and engaging style. Originally an elementary school teacher, Tanny has served as literacy coach, gifted intervention specialist, and preK-12 staff developer. She is the author of three books: Comprehension Connections: Bridges to Strategic Reading (Heinemann, 2007), Genre Connections: Lessons to Launch Literacy and Nonfiction Texts (Heinemann, 2013) and Ink & Ideas: Sketchnotes for Engagement (Heinemann, 2019).

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m.; the workshop is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on March 5, 2020. The workshop will take place at the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, located at 2275 Collingwood Blvd., in Toledo, Ohio. Six [6.0] contact hours are available for this training.

The cost of this workshop is $65 for ESC of Lake Erie West member districts and $95 for nonmember districts. This fee includes lunch and instructional materials.
