COVID-19 & Inclement Weather Policies Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most State Support Team 1 professional learning opportunities are offered online. When in-person training is necessary, proper sanitation, social distancing, and face covering protocols are utilized. We are carefully monitoring State Support Team health and will notify registrants of any event cancellations or location changes.   When we return to in-person training opportunities, please be mindful of weather conditions. If we you are experiencing hazardous driving conditions, call 800-346-8495 after 6:30 a.m. to learn if your workshop is delayed or cancelled. Myth Busting Transition Assessment @ Virtual

This session focuses on understanding what is (and what is not) the intent of age-appropriate transition assessment, as well as the implementation of transition assessment by a multi-agency team, which includes the family and youth. Discover strategies and resources that can be used to gather transition assessment data in a virtual environment.

Supported decision making leads to self-efficacy, which reflects confidence in the ability to exert control over one’s own motivation, behavior, and social environment. According to the author, Jonathan Martinis, this book is for “the people, parents, families, friends, professionals, and practitioners on the front lines who give and get the support we all need to lead our best lives.” The participants will learn how to apply and implement the principles of supported decision making with students with disabilities through the lens of the experience of Jenny Hatch and her pursuit for equity in her own decision making process in her adult life.

Universal Design for Learning is a framework based on research in the learning sciences, including cognitive neuroscience, that guides the development of flexible learning environments that can accommodate individual learning differences. UDL helps educators identify and remove barriers in the curriculum to ensure all students learn the material.

Academic teachers, Career Tech teachers, and Administration are encouraged to attend this PD series. Participants will practice using technology as a learning tool for the lab or classroom. During sessions 2 – 4, teachers will have time to revise their lessons by adding UDL components. Cohort members will:

  • identify the 3 core components of UDL
  • identify barriers in their lessons that create learning gaps for students
  • implement UDL components in a minimum of 3 lessons

  • The October and December sessions will meet virtually. If it is safe to do so, the last three sessions will be held in-person.

Participants from the 2019-20 UDL and CTE Cohort will expand their knowledge in the areas of means of engagement, expression, and representation. Cohort members will explore using document cameras and other assistive technology as a support tool for their lab or classroom, and how to add more kinesthetic activities into daily lessons. During each session, participants will receive and give feedback on ways to improve the lesson. Cohort members will:

  • increase their usage of UDL strategies
  • identify barriers in their lessons that create learning gaps for students
  • identify sources for adaptive technology for students

  • This workshop is open only to participants in the 2nd year of the UDL/CTE Cohort.

Project Graduation: Power Hour Series [Afternoon Session] @ Virtual
Dec 8 @ 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm

Each 60-minute “Power Hour” sessions will focus on different aspects of preparing students for graduation, including:

  • a deep dive into Ohio’s new graduation requirements
  • updates to the Ohio Means Jobs website and resources
  • Success bound strategies for building community partnerships and a business advisory council
  • Transition plans and transition planning

using the Career Connections Framework with efficacy and efficiency to ensure student enrollment, enlistment, employment, and/or engagement in the community

Each Power Hour will also include an optional 30-minute Q&A and peer-to-peer networking session for participants to share ideas and dive deeper into the content and implementation strategies discussed in the 60-minute presentation.
