Advanced Braille Course

Taught by Shelley Mack, Certified Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (CTVI) and Certified Braille Transcriber, this course is designed for educators who need advanced instruction in contracted Unified English Braille (UEB) and the formats in which it is transcribed.

The course consists of two onsite sessions with four additional lessons to be completed independently between. The course will briefly review the content of lessons one through seven and provide in-depth coverage of lessons eight – nineteen of the NLS Braille Transcribing Course, National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Library of Congress. P

articipants will have sessions for independent and group work and will apply their updated knowledge as they read, write, and proofread braille literary material. Students will use the Perkins Brailler and a computer with 6-key input and Perky Duck to produce braille materials.

The first on-site class takes place on Monday, June 18, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The last on-site class takes place on Monday, July 9, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Participants sign in on Monday, June 18, from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The series will be held at OCALI, located at 470 Glenmont Avenue in Columbus, Ohio.
