The BEST Grant Summer Institute 2019 offers four braille courses that follow the braille courses provided by the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute, under contract with the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) Library of Congress. The goal of the BEST grant is to provide quality braille instruction to educators who serve students who are blind and visually impaired and to improve their braille competency skills.

This course is designed for educators who need advanced instruction in contracted Unified English Braille (UEB) and the formats in which it is transcribed. The course consists of two onsite sessions with four additional lessons to be completed independently between onsite classes. Participants will have activities for independent and group work and will apply their knowledge as they read, write, and proofread braille materials.
