Project STIR™ Training: Steps Toward Independence & Responsibility

Project STIR™ Training

About the Training

Project STIR™ Training: Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility is a six-session training designed to provide individuals with the tools to advocate for themselves, mobilize others in advocacy and gain leadership experiences. Individuals participating in this training will learn how to stand up for themselves, speak up about things they care about, solve problems, look for a job, connect with others, and understand their rights and responsibilities.

Up to 20 youth and adults with disabilities may attend Project STIR™ Training. Participants will need a support coach, called an ally, to assist with the training. This may be a family member, staff person, or friend.

During the series, trainers will offer information, give demonstrations, and lead participants in small group and role playing activities. The ultimate goal is for participants to be able to be a leader. Participants will receive materials to train others and a Certificate of Participation if attending all six sessions. The ally should be willing to help participants with this beyond the training.

A free meal for participants and allies is provided at 5:00 p.m., and the training is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on October 17, October 24, October 31, November 7, November 14, and November 21, 2019 (Thursdays). The training will take place at the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities 1155 Larc Lane, Toledo, through Door G.

Register as soon as possible; the deadline to register is September 27, 2019.
