UT: Preschool Special Needs Endorsement

Preschool Special Needs Endorsement

Students seeking an endorsement in Preschool Special Needs (PSNE) must hold a current Ohio teaching license in K-12 Intervention Specialist (mild/moderate or moderate/intensive) or Early Childhood Education (PK-3). With this endorsement, individuals can teach in a school district sponsored preschool special needs classroom or serve as an itinerant preschool teacher that serves young children with disabilities.

The PSNE endorsement is based on the competencies identified by the Ohio Board of Regents/Department of Education. The Preschool Special Needs Endorsement provides teachers with the coursework and field experiences necessary to work effectively with preschool aged children with disabilities in a variety of settings. Applicants may obtain a master’s degree in special education or early childhood education in conjunction with the endorsement requirements.

This plan of study assumes students have had formal coursework related to working with families and special education law. Candidate must pass the Early Childhood Special Education (#013) test area of the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) prior to receiving licensure.
